Programmes
- In 2008, we will continue to teach a 16-week Level 5 Skills Program and aim to roll out in all 9 provinces of South Africa. Our current Level 5 will take place in the North West province with Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape in the pipeline. Check out our Level 5 section for more details. You should be a Cadet Member of The Institute or a Member of the Union to qualify for a course.
- We will facilitate the development of 36 full-length feature film scripts under the ‘Script Camp’ initiative, funded by the National Lottery. 12 writers at a time will go on a paid ‘retreat’ for 3 months to write their scripts under the guidance of script editors and with the participation of a producer. We will be looking for writers from all over the country for this one – you should either be a working junior writer or have completed some sort of training at level 5. Look at our Master Class Section for details – you should be a member of SASWU or a Cadet member of the Institute to qualify.
- Our Laboratories, in support of the Level 5 courses, are running in Johannesburg and Durban with national roll out in the pipeline. We are established in Joburg and Durban so if you need to learn computer skills please see our Level 3 section. You should join the Institute as a novice member to go on this course.
- Our growing relationships with various industry stakeholders also mean that we are able to begin a series of ‘master classes’. We are in discussions around a number of other projects as we view master classes as critical for SASWU full members. They will be announced soon.
- We also are running monthly Elements Workshops in Johannesburg. The Durban office also runs various smaller workshops – contact Mandla on 078 810 2760 for more information.
- We have another program to run in Gauteng where the result will be full-length feature films as well as a Level 5 certificate. The “Write Now” project will be announced soon, so keep in touch.
